The Earl

The Earl of Strathmore lives at Glamis with his family and takes an active role in the management of the Estate, the Castle and the farming enterprises.

As a separate venture the Earl purchased in October 2005 the business of David Irons & Sons Ltd, located in Castle Street, Forfar. The Earl describes this as a ‘good old fashioned furnishing ironmonger’ which forms an important part of Forfar’s’ economy and was originally started by George Irons in 1840. The present magnificent premises in Castle Street were constructed for the business in 1908 and after five generations of the Irons family Lord Strathmore is enjoying the challenge of continuing a traditional business in today’s modern retail environment.
